Motocross Protective Racing Gear
Hi, I'm Rick Wilder from Portland, Oregon, former Kawasaki rider from the 1980's. I'm here today with Tyler Real to talk to you a little bit about Motocross racing gear, protective racing gear that is. If you'll notice, Tyler is wearing a pair of boots, pants, jersey, he'll have a helmet, and he'll have goggles and he'll have what we call a wrist protector and then proper gloves. The boots are made out of both leather and plastic for optimum protection yet very comfortable to wear. Underneath Tyler's racing pants will be a knee pad and knee brace and shin brace to help him from flying debris or maybe if he catches his foot in a rut it twists and that knee brace will hold his knee back in place which is also very protective important. He has a long sleeve jersey on that helps him with the debris, flying dust, mud, whatever comes his way. It's a again it's one of these things, it's important to racing and safety so it's required. He's got protective gloves, on his gloves, he's got padding on the front, he's got palms on the back to help him hang on to get a good grip on his motorcycle. Along with all that is a very important piece which is the motorcycle helmet. Tyler's motorcycle helmet is specially designed for him and fitted for him. It has a protective face guard on it, it has a shield on the front that allows him to duck his head during a race and it blocks the debris that come at him. On the back it's got his name, it's got his number so we all can identify him from the tower to score him properly throughout the racing facility. Tyler also has to wear goggles. These goggles are Tyler's choice of goggles, a specific lens for him, but the important part of this is that he's got to have those goggles inside the helmet to keep the debris from coming inside his helmet and deflecting from his eye. Tyler's also got a preference of what we call roost protector. That roost protector he wears underneath his jersey so that he can keep his jersey and his name clean on the back he's got this advertising of his logo and things like that, but the roost protector basically allows him to ride behind a rider who may be throwing up rocks and debris and whatever is on the track. This protects him from getting pelted. It's almost like getting hit by little bee bees or maybe if you've been in a hail storm, this is something that all the riders have in one form or another. This happens to be Tyler's choice of protective gear. It's important that in every race track you go to throughout the country, any motocross facility you're going to need the proper gear. So again you're going to need race boots, pants, jersey, gloves, goggles, and certainly a good helmet. All this stuff comes from many different providers, it's all very protective and very comfortable to wear.
